Updated Features to the 2017 Honda CR-V
The main changes in the 2017 CR-V can be found in the dimensions, with an extra 1.4 inches in the wheelbase, height, and width. The ground clearance has been heightened also, now at 8.2 inches. The interior is where the major changes are to be found. The cabin has gotten an upgrade in its comfort, quality, and quietness. New materials on the doors and dash are softer and more visually appealing. The steering wheel is smaller and better contoured to fit the driver’s hands. The center console has a new, roomier design. A deep bin under the armrest will hold your travel necessities. A removable tray will keep your things organized, or it can be removed to accommodate a small ladies’ purse. Already a roomy SUV, the 2017 CR-V now has an extra two inches of legroom in the back seat. The driver’s seat has an expanded power-adjustment range on each trim level except at the base level. Cargo space has increased also to a maximum of five cubic feet with the seats down.
The 2017 CR-V LX model is powered by a 2.4L four-cylinder engine that delivers 184 horsepower and 180 pound-per-foot of torque. The other trim levels offer a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that outputs 190 horsepower and 179 pound-per-foot. There isn’t much difference in acceleration, so either engine is a good choice. The steering and suspension have been tweaked to offer a quieter, more comfortable ride. Upgrades to the technology vary across the trim levels, with the EX trim and higher getting the best upgrades. Some of these features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a digital gauge cluster, blind spot monitoring, and four USB ports. The touchscreen and controls have also been improved in the 2017 CR-V.
The Honda CR-V History
The first Honda CR-V came out in Japan in 1996, and crossed the Pacific Ocean to North America in 1997. It was a five-passenger vehicle and was strictly a 4WD with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine giving 126 hp. The 1998 CR-V offered a 2WD model. Horsepower increased in 1999 to 146. The newly designed 2002 model introduced an i-VTEC engine and larger cargo area. Again in 2005 the CR-V got a bit of a facelift with new headlights and standard 16-inch wheels. The liftgate was added in 2007 along with a five-speed automatic transmission. The year 2010 saw more changes in a new grille, an increase in horsepower to 180, and a more aerodynamic design.
