2018 Honda Accord versus 2018 Altima: Which is the Better Midsized Sedan?

Crossovers are getting a lot of love these days as a family transportation option, but for many, the midsized sedan is still the best option. This segment has historically been hotly contested and dominated by offerings from Toyota and Honda. Nissan’s Altima model has, however, started to gain some traction among buyers. In order to help shoppers make an informed decision, Hendrick Honda Bradenton has taken the time to compare the 2018 Accord and 2018 Altima to highlight the differences between the two. If you’re looking at either of these midsized passenger sedans, read on to find out what happens when they go head to head.

2018 Honda Accord versus 2018 Nissan Altima: Interior Comparison

Honda completely redesigned the Accord for the 2018 model year and it’s now wider than the outgoing model. When comparing the Accord and the Altima, both vehicles come within an inch or two of each other in front row headroom and legroom. The second row of seating, however, is a different story. The 2018 Accord offers significantly more second row legroom and hip room than the 2018 Altima. Additionally, Accord boasts a clear advantage in total passenger volume compared to the Nissan model (105.6 cu. ft. versus 101.9 cu. ft.). 2018 Accord is the better option for cargo volume, as well.

As far as interior features are concerned, both the 2018 Accord and 2018 Altima come up big. High-end appointments are available when you navigate up the model trim ladder of each vehicle.

In light of all this information, the interior category goes to the 2018 Accord. The second row spaciousness factor is a big deal for families, and the Accord comes up big in this area.

Nissan Altima

2018 Honda Accord versus 2018 Nissan Altima: Exterior Comparison

The 2018 Accord is longer and wider than the 2018 Altima, but only within an inch or two. This advantage doesn’t translate into any tangible benefit for the Accord. The same can’t be said, however, for exterior style. Honda completely redesigned the Accord for the 2018 model year and gave it a fresh new style. The Accord now sits lower to the ground and sports a coupe-like appearance with its raked roof. It’s a definite attention getter on the roads around Bradenton, Sarasota, and Osprey.

Nissan’s Altima model hasn’t been completely revamped since 2013 and is dire need of a restyle. To be fair, it is rumored that Nissan will release an all-new model in 2019, but until then, this category is clearly in favor of the Accord.

2018 Honda Accord versus 2018 Nissan Altima: Technology Comparison

This category goes to the Honda Accord in a landslide. The 2018 Accord comes standard on all trim levels with the Honda Sensing Safety package. This includes features like Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Nissan counters with their Intelligent Mobility Suite, but the complete suite is not standard on all trim levels of the Altima. Big advantage here for the 2018 Accord.

2018 Honda Accord versus 2018 Nissan Altima: Performance Comparison

This segment goes to the 2018 Accord and it’s not even close. Accord’s 1.5L Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers 192 horsepower. The 2018 Altima counters with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with 179 horsepower. Additionally, the 2018 Accord offers better overall MPG than Altima (33 MPG versus 31 MPG). Better horsepower and gas mileage? That’s a homerun for the 2018 Accord.

2018 Honda Accord versus 2018 Nissan Altima: It’s Simply No Contest

It should be obvious at this point that we’re recommending the 2018 Honda Accord as the better overall value versus the 2018 Altima. Honda’s redesigned model beats out Altima in practically every category and even offers a better price. Nissan may close the gap when/if they release an all-new Altima for the 2019 model year, but in the meantime, it’s no contest.
