2023 Honda Pilot vs. 2023 Subaru Ascent

If you're looking for a midsize SUV in Bradenton, FL, that is comfortable and spacious, then you need to compare the 2023 Honda Pilot and the Subaru Ascent. These two vehicles have plenty to offer, but only one can end up in your driveway. When deciding on your next vehicle, you'll need to consider performance, interior comfort, and safety and convenience features. Let's compare these two midsize SUVs and find the perfect one for you and your family.

Updates for 2023

The Honda Pilot was fully redesigned for the 2023 model year and welcomes some new exterior designs that give it a more ruggedly handsome appearance. The Pilot has traded its old nine-speed automatic transmission for a new 10-speed unit. The Pilot updated its styling to match the newest Honda models and introduced new features for the 2023 model year.

The Subaru Ascent also received some updates to its 2023 model year with a refreshed grille design and saw some improvements to its standard equipment.

Interior

The Pilot has an upscale interior that can hold seven to eight occupants depending on the seat configuration, and the third row is also comfortable for adults during short trips. The front seats were also updated for better support and reduced fatigue. The Pilot has higher-quality material and comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital gauge cluster; however, it does have a 9-inch touchscreen and 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster available. The display is easy to use and navigate. The Pilot also has plenty of room when it comes to cargo space.

Critics found that the Ascent fell short with the space in the third row, and said it's better suited for children. Also, only two of the models have heated rear seats, leather-trimmed upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and a memory driver's seat available. While the Ascent can hold up to eight people it didn't have a lot of cargo room or cubby space.

Performance

The Pilot is impressive with its 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive. The powertrain is smooth and its reworked suspension layout delivers better off-road performance by soaking up bumpy terrain with ease. The acceleration is quiet and there wasn't a lot of exterior noise heard in the cabin. The handling also improved compared to the 2022 model year making it a more stellar ride.

Critics discovered that the Ascent's continuously variable automatic transmission contributed to a noisier interior and has abrupt throttle speed which took some time to get used to. The Ascent also isn't the most thrilling vehicle to drive, but it was composed while driving.
